Bentonite Clay Powder

Herbs: Bentonite clay - Powder

Origin: USA

Available in 1/2 or 1 pound quantities.

Bentonite Clay:

Bentonite clay has been gaining popularity in resent years as an internal and external cleanser for very good reasons. However with every good page of research there are ten more pages of nonsense, so we have worked hard to bring you the best information and the finest product on the market.

Why our Bentonite Clay?

Not all Bentonite Clay is created equal, most of it is not mined for internal use or sifted as finely as it should be. But here at the Bulk Herb Store we carefully select Bentonite Clay that is unsurpassed in purity, quality and is mined with only stainless steel equipment to keep it from adsorbing heavy metals while it is being harvested. Our Bentonite clay is a naturally forming clay (not processed) and all Bentonite, is made of minerals that are a part of the smectite class of clays. Bentonite clay is primarily composed of the mineral, montmorillonite which, if it contains sodium as an exchangeable ion, can swell up to six times its size when wet; this makes it the most adsorbent and absorbent of all the clays. Calcium Bentonite clay is only slightly swelling or non-swelling this allows the clay (if it is as finely sifted as ours) to pass uninhibited through the colon wall, were it will go on to clean the blood and give vital minerals to the bones. Our clay is a natural mix of both sodium and calcium Bentonite, this will allow it to do twice as much as either one by itself.

How It Works:

Bentonite Clay is a very unique substance, formed primarily of Montmorillonite, which is an extremely flat crystal flake, that carries a relatively strong negative ionic charge. The negative charge is compensated for by adsorbing a cation (either Sodium or Calcium) to the interior of the molecule, this is what makes it either Sodium Bentonite or Calcium Bentonite Clay. To put it another way think of the Montmorillonite crystal flake resembling two pieces of bread, with a strong vacuum pulling the lunch meat in between them, whatever lands there (Sodium or Calcium) determines what kind of sandwich it will be. Now when you activate this clay sandwich it will magnetically grab the junk in your body (heavy metals, toxins, acid, etc.…) and trade them for the” lunch meat” taking the toxins out in your waste. The two different clays although very similar in their inert state (dry) have very different applications when activated (mixed with water).

Sodium Bentonite

The Sodium Bentonite has the highest Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) and the higher the CEC of the clay the stronger the negative charge. This means that Sodium Montmorillonite has a stronger vacuum for pulling in heavy metals and toxins that it comes into contact with. Furthermore the Sodium Bentonite swells more giving it the ability to adsorb and absorb more toxins pulling them into the interior layers of the clay and carrying the them out of the body through the feces. In order to enhance this process we have put together a herbal mix called Detox+

Calcium Bentonite:

Calcium Bentonite does not swell as much as Sodium Bentonite and while that makes it less effective as a detoxing agent it is more effective as a remineralizer. Because it dose not swell as much, Calcium Bentonite will have some tiny particles small enough to pass through the colon wall into the bloodstream. There it will scavenge out toxins and leave behind vital minerals. Montmorillonite is a Silica based mineral and it is silica that allows calcium to pass through the outer portion of the bone to the interior where it is most needed.

Bentonite Clay and your pH Balance

Another factor that makes Bentonite Clay Powder so indispensable is it’s ability to elevate your body’s pH. The Bentonite will absorb some of the hydrogen from your cells enabling them to fill that space with the oxygen you so dearly need.

Bentonite Clay and wildlife:

Peruvian Macaws seem to somehow know the benefits of Bentonite clay. Macaws are entirely dependent upon wild fruit for there main source of food, but at certain times of the year only poisonous fruit is available. So they will fly to the nearest clay lick and eat the clay in the morning which will adsorb the alkaloid toxins found in the poisonous fruit they eat during the day. Its highest power lies in the ability to absorb toxins, impurities, heavy metals and other internal contaminants. Bentonite clay's structure assists it in attracting and soaking up poisons on its exterior wall and then slowly drawing them into the interior center of the clay where they are held in a sort of repository. To state it another way, Bentonite is swelling clay. When it becomes mixed with water it rapidly swells open like a highly porous sponge. From here the toxins are drawn into the sponge through electrical attraction and once there, they are bound.

Bentonite Clay Toothpaste:

We at the Bulk Herb Store, decided to make an all natural, organic, toothpaste that would neutralize acid, remove bacteria filled organic matter, leach out infection and promote healthy gums. And we did just that! Check out our Bentonite Clay Toothpaste

Bentonite Clay Mask:

A clay mask made from Bentonite draws excess oils and debris to the surface of your skin, boosts circulation to tighten the skin and stimulate blood flow, and whisks away dead skin cells that can clog pores.

Bentonite Clay for skin irritation:

To control itching: A simple “mud pack” made with bentonite clay powder and enough water to create a thick goo can help control the itch and dry up blisters, herbalists say. Spread the clay over the affected area and let air dry. Keep it on until the clay wears off or gets itchy. Wash off the residue.
For first-aid: To make a healing pack, mix Bentonite clay powder or baking soda and oatmeal with water and an anti-infection herb (such as garlic, thyme, or calendula) or an herbal tincture. Apply to pimples, boils, or wounds.

From Our Reading and/or Experience...

  • Do not use metal utensils or containers to stir or store Bentonite clay powder. Contact with metal may decrease the clay's potency.
  • The internal use of Bentonite clay is an excellent and simple way to do an effective cleanse. Among other benefits, it can reduce body odor, skin blemishes, and digestive track issues of all sorts.
  • The clay can be stirred into water, juice or any other beverage of your choice. It can also be sprinkled on foods or encapsulated.
  • We keep it on hand, among other items, to use internally and externally in case of snake bites or any other kind of poisoning.
  • Bentonite clay can be used to benefit anyone: men, women (including before, during or after pregnancy, and nursing), children, and animals.
  • It can be used as often as you would like, and in any way you choose. Just remember to consume LOTS of water while using it internally.

cancer patient
by kmorales on Jun 16, 2013

would like to know if this product would benefit my mother. She was diagnoses with kidney cancer 3 years ago. surgery was performed twice because the cancer came back, one kidney was removed and the gallbladder a small section of her colon also. Last surgery was December 2012, the cancer is back and the experimental medication she had been receiving has recently been terminated because it didn't work, the medication was so strong her body is completely depleted she has no energy is not able to eat, horrible abdominal pains severe bloating. would this product be something she could take.

    Re: cancer patient
by Bulk Herb Store on Jun 17, 2013

That's a good question, and since we are not too familiar with what it would do or how safe it is considering she is missing some of her organs, I would advise talking to a natural medicine practitioner or herbalist that knows more about it.

thyroid
by Joan on Jun 10, 2013

I put a thin coat of the bentonite clay toothpaste on my neck where my enlarged thyroid is on Sunday. It got very red, then it got better looking. Today (Monday), some parts of my neck looks bruised. Is this normal? and what is the "recipe" I should use for just the bentonite clay for my thyroid?

    Re: thyroid
by Bulk Herb Store on Jun 13, 2013

It is normal for your skin to be flushed or slightly irritated when bentonite clay is applied as it pulls out toxins, but it is usually back to normal by the next day. The toothpaste is prob. harsher than just the bentonite by itself and might be what caused it to look bruised. You can watch Shoshanna's youtube Episode - 80 for tips on bentonite applications!

Calcium vs Sodium
by Barbara on Jun 9, 2013

Do you offer calcium or sodium betonite? Can either be purchased/requested?

    Re: Calcium vs Sodium
by Bulk Herb Store on Jun 13, 2013

We only carry a mixture of both clays mixed together.

Safe for morning sickness?
by Stephanie on May 23, 2013

I have been taking one tsp of bentonite clay in a glass of water since day one of my pregnancy. I have read that it's safe because the toxins are pulled out through the digestive system. However, what if a woman doesn't have a bowel movement every day (as a lot of women are constipated during pregnancy)? Is it safe for those toxins to be trapped in the bowels? I would like to continue taking the clay as it helps with morning sickness, but not if the toxins are trapped in my body. Thank you!

    Re: Safe for morning sickness?
by Bulk Herb Store on May 24, 2013

No it is not good to have those toxins trapped in your bowels and you need to make sure your bowels keep moving if you continue taking the clay. I would suggest taking a fiber or eat foods high in fiber and drinking plenty of water to help with constipation.

Burns, skin, and internal question
by Kyle on May 23, 2013

I have a friend who does extensive plumbing work and he received a nasty burn on his hand... like really nasty. He applied a poultice once a day for a couple of hours and it healed in about a week with barely any scarring.

I bought some for my face as I have a few blemishes and put it on last night. I've already noticed much smaller pores and the blemishes have disappeared. I usually have dry skin around my nose and this is also gone, but it might also be because I've been drinking quite a bit of water. The stuff is great though.

I could only find BC that doesn't have a great deal of information on it and says its for face masks and baths - doesn't say whether it's Calcium or Sodium. My question is, can I still take this internally? It says 100% bentonite clay so I've just started taking a tsp. in my morning fruit smoothies to mask the taste. Is this wise?

Re: Burns, skin, and internal question
by Bulk Herb Store on May 23, 2013

Our BC is a mixture of 50/50 Sodium and Calcium and is food grade so it can be taken internally, we usually like to take it on an empty stomach in juice or water. If you got it somewhere else I would suggest contacting them and making sure it is food grade before ingesting.

Diarrhea
by Rachel on May 19, 2013

Hi, I've read that bentonite clay can help with diarrhea. Both my kids have issues with diarrhea. How would you suggest I give it to them? Internally, bath... and how much? They are 2 and 4 years old. Thank you so much for your help.

    Re: Diarrhea
by Bulk Herb Store on May 21, 2013

I read that you can mix it with applesauce and eat that for diarrhea but I was not able to find dosages for children, or if it is even recommended to give internally to children, so you may want to ask a natural medicine practitioner or healthcare provider.

How do I store it?
by Jordan on May 17, 2013

I ordered some and mixed it with water and it made A LOT of wet clay that I don't want to waste. Is it okay to store in a plastic container and use it later? Will it affect the clays effectiveness at all?

Re: How do I store it?
by Bulk Herb Store on May 17, 2013

I would store it in a glass jar so it doesn't pull out anything from the plastic and it should be fine for a while if you keep it tightly covered to prevent it from drying out.

calcium or sodium bentonite for weight control
by yasmin on May 15, 2013

shall i use sodium or calcium bentonite for controlling my weight?

Re: calcium or sodium bentonite for weight control
by Bulk Herb Store on May 16, 2013

Personally, I always use a mixture of both and I only use it as a detox and I would not take it on a daily basis as your body also has probiotics, or good bacteria, in your digestive system. Excessive cleansing or detoxifying can remove these good bacteria and create digestive problems. Our resolution collection may be a better choice along with a good diet and exercise.

Braces/retainers?
by PJ on May 13, 2013

I would like to know if it is okay to use bentonite clay to brush your teeth if you have braces or a permanent retainer? What about fillings?

    Re: Braces/retainers?
by Bulk Herb Store on May 14, 2013

Yes it is safe to use with any fillings and or retainers.

Bentonite clay mask
by Ruth on May 11, 2013

How often would you say is a healthy time frame between doing the bentonite clay mask? Or can you do the mask as often as you want because there will always be toxins to extract?

    Re: Bentonite clay mask
by Bulk Herb Store on May 14, 2013

It depends on your skin type somewhat. For oily skin you can do it 2-3 times a month, for normal skin 1-2 times a month and for dry skin once a month should be OK.

Tooth powder
by Karla Anderson on May 8, 2013

I am planning to try the tooth powder. Which clay should I use the calcium or sodium? I saw that the question has been asked before but your response was not obvious! Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Re: Tooth powder
by Bulk Herb Store on May 10, 2013

We actually like to use a mixture of both as the Sodium Bentonite provides a deep cleansing for the teeth and the Calcium has important minerals in it to help re-mineralize the teeth. Our bentonite is a 50/50 mixture of both clays.

Nursing/babies/toddlers
by Rachel Shea on May 8, 2013

Is this safe to use while nursing. Is it safe to use directly on a 10 month old and 3 year old?

    Re: Nursing/babies/toddlers
by Bulk Herb Store on May 10, 2013

It seems to be safe while nursing since it is not absorbed into the body - it stays in your digestive tract, doesn't enter the blood stream and therefore, has no affect on breast milk. Please visit here for info. on using it on children:

Is it safe for Eyelids?
by Carolyn on May 7, 2013

Hello! I developed eczema 2 years ago and guess where it is? All over my neck, earlobes, and EYELIDS! If I were to use the bentonite clay as a mask, could I use it on my eyelids? Would I change anything?
Thank you!

Re: Is it safe for Eyelids?
by Bulk Herb Store on May 9, 2013

Bentonite clay may cause irritation if used on the eyelids so if it was me I would make a really thick paste and only leave it on for about 5 minutes or so and see if it irritates it, if I wanted to try it. There are also some herbs that might be helpful to apply topically and/or orally that you can read about here:

All over body itching
by Sally on May 6, 2013

For the last 6-8 weeks I have had intense itching all over my body. Mostly, no rash appears, but at times raised skin bumps on my hands. It occurs daily mostly intensifying at night. I have been doing some research about histamine and DAO as it helps when I take an antihistamine. This also coincides with having to take an antibiotic and prednisone shortly before the itching began. If it is histamine related, will bentonite clay possibly help and do you think I should be looking also at a liver cleanse? Thank you for your help.

    Re: All over body itching
by Bulk Herb Store on May 9, 2013

Since it started soon after taking the meds. there is a chance it is an allergic reaction or histamine, especially since it helps when you take an antihistamine. A few herbs that have antihistamine properties are Nettle and Goldenseal. I'm not sure what Bentonite clay would do for that but you could try it, it would help get rid of toxins. Also a liver cleanse would help get rid of toxins from the meds. but I would suggest asking your Dr. or a natural medicine practitioner before using while on the antibiotics and prednisone.

Oops
by Kim on Apr 26, 2013

So I messed up. For some reason, thought I shouldn't use plastic instead of metal and the batch of hydrated clay I mixed up with a stainless steel fork. I'm only using it for scratches for my daughter and for facial masks for me for the next few weeks, not internal cleansing of any sort. Can I still use it or is it an entire waste at this point. I'd hate to throw it out entirely.

    Re: Oops
by Bulk Herb Store on May 1, 2013

Personally I would still use it if you only used the fork to stir it up and didn't leave it in afterwards. It may have possibly pulled out some metals but I don't think it would pull too many out in a short time so it should still be OK.

Bentonite Clay
by Hayley on Apr 14, 2013

    Re: Bentonite Clay
by Bulk Herb Store on May 1, 2013

    I would say there is approx. 1 - 1 1/2 c. per 1/2 lb. and approx. 2 -2 1/2 c. per 1 lb.

Heavy Metal Detox
by Leann on Apr 11, 2013

I am looking for a way to detox a 13 month old who has a disorder that does not allow her body to detox heavy metals. Do you think this would be too harsh on a baby's skin?

    Re: Heavy Metal Detox
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 30, 2013

If this was my child I would give her a bath in the bentonite clay when needed. Please keep in mind we are not health professionals and that this is only our opinion. Thank You!

vaccinations
by Elizabeth on Apr 10, 2013

Hi,

My daughter is 6 months old. She is getting her first vaccination. Do you think adding some clay to her bath would help detox her from the toxins in the vaccine? If so, how much clay should I add to a small baby tub? (The type that fits into a sink.)

Thank you in advance for your time.
Elizabeth

    Re: vaccinations
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 30, 2013

If this was my child I would give her a bath in the bentonite clay but not to often since she is so young. If I was to do this I would only use 1lb of the clay. Please keep in mind we are not health professionals and that this is only our opinion. Thank You!

bentonite clay and diatomaceous earth
by CherylS on Apr 8, 2013

Is it ok to take them together? I got it today and did a tsp. of each in some juice. It doesn't mix very well so I ended up scooping the mix and swallowing and followed by a liter of alkaline water. Should I take at night or in the morning?

Re: bentonite clay and diatomaceous earth
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 30, 2013

From what I have found Diatomaceous earth has been said to soak up other nutrients so I would not take it with the clay because it has vital minerals in it that the body needs. They are best taken in the morning so you can drink plenty of water throughout the day!

Is the clay safe to use on 1 year old?
by Jenn on Mar 27, 2013

My son just turned 1, and I was interested in using this powder for both of us since we recently had some lead-based paint removed from the outside of our house, and I want to make sure our systems are clean! Can a 1 year old safely take bentonite clay?

Re: Is the clay safe to use on 1 year old?
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 30, 2013

It would be better to give your child a bath with bentonite because he is quite young to take it.

bentonite clay and anemia
by kathryn on Mar 21, 2013

hi there,
i am 30 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and am once again anemic as i have been with all pregnancies. i am trying to boost my iron as natuarally as possible but am on prescribed iron pills too. i am wanting to use bentonite clay internally and make b. clay toothpaste for my family and am just wondering if it is a good thing to take while aenemic? i read that it is great for drawing out metals so could it draw iron out too?
i really have no idea about all these things but with a young family am keen to become more actively knowledgeable about it all.
thanks so much, in advance, for any advice you can give.
- kathy :-)

    Re: bentonite clay and anemia
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 26, 2013

I am not sure if bentonite clay will absorb iron or not. A good way to boost your iron would be to make an iron infusion like in the Making Babies book!

Fungal infection
by larkyb on Mar 19, 2013

Years ago, my ex-husband had a nasty fungal infection on his feet that he refused to have treated. It was slowly spreading and becoming putrescent. I just happened to think one day of using the bentonite clay I'd bought for a face mask on his feet. I mixed the dry clay with vinegar and applied it to his feet every night for a week. The improvement was immediate, and by the end of the week, it was healing so well I stopped treating it. It never came back.
I am about to use it to treat diarrhea in my kittens. Hoping it works as well!

How much to mix with water to drink?
by Nita on Mar 15, 2013

I just purchased the clay from your company for a facial mask. But after reading these comments I would like to try drinking some for my health, but I can't find any information or the correct portions.

Re: How much to mix with water to drink?
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 25, 2013

We usually start in with 1 tsp. in a glass of water or juice once a day and over a period of a few days work our way up to 1 Tbsp. a day and do that for 2-3 wks., then either repeat this process at-least 6 mo. later, or continue taking it only once a wk. for as long as you would like!

Bentonite Clay - Medications & supplements
by Nikki on Mar 12, 2013

I was reading about all the benefits of Bentonite clay. Since it absorbs toxins from the body when taken internally, would it also effect on any medication or supplements a person is taking? Thanks.

Re: Bentonite Clay - Medications & supplements
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 25, 2013

I have heard that it will not absorb many nutrients as they repel each other, however it may effect meds. as most meds. have preservatives in them. To avoid absorption, you can take it 2 hrs. before or after the meds. or supplements.

by Coralie on Feb 27, 2013

So i am constipated really bad i drink lots of water etc but i am wondering if i could take it internally i already use it on my face for my acne dont seem to do much but anyways i want to know if it would be safe because my mom said it might just make it even harder to have a bowel movement help me please anything i can do

    Re: Help
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 18, 2013

Yes it is safe to take internally, however, it usually causes constipation if you don't take extra fibers and/or drink lots of water, so if I were you I would take fibers like Psyllium seed powder, flax seed or any other fiber you like. Also Diatomaceous Earth would be great to take for bowel issues and many other things including skin problems.

bentonite
by Samantha on Feb 27, 2013

What do you mix the bentonite in. I have tried water but it did not mix well at all it just balled up.

    Re: bentonite
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 18, 2013

I usually mix mine in orange juice to mask any taste, however, it generally doesn't mix well in liquids so what I do is mix it in as best I can and add a little pinch of salt, then let it set for about 15 min. and that usually helps it dissolve better!

Bentonite Clay for Babies
by Anonymous on Feb 26, 2013

Hello, I wanted to see if the benotonite clay is alright to use in baths for my 15 month old son? What about giving it to him internally?
Not sure if it matters, but he does have eczema flare ups on his face, sometimes. Dairy, for sure, and possibly gluten seem to be what causes it, but also when he is cutting a tooth he has flare ups. If you have any ideas in regards to the eczema, we would appreciate some tips. We've taken him to a naturopathic doctor and gotten some help, but it is not cleared up yet.
Thank you so much for your help and the opportunity to get these great products from your store!

    Re: Bentonite Clay for Babies
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 18, 2013

From what I have read it should be fine to do the bath if you cut back on the clay and the length of time the child is in the water. Here is a website I found that gave instructions for children:
    http://earthslivingclay.com/1033/children-and-clay-baths/
I would not recommend giving it internally as it is important to drink lots of water to avoid constipation etc.

Bentonite Clay Powder
by dee on Feb 21, 2013

I have a question. My sister says she has a yeast infection that has been driving her nuts for years. I just received my order and was wonder, can this powder be used as a douche, for women? My husband has a blockage that the GI cannot seem to find, and I was wondering will this powder make him constipated or get stuck and if he takes a laxative, later on after he takes the powder? What I mean is, will the effects of the laxative still work?

    Re: Bentonite Clay Powder
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 19, 2013

You could try using it as a douche, it might also be helpful to take it internally. Here is a link with lots of info on yeast and herbs for it:
    http://naturalhealthtechniques.com/specificdiseasesyeast_tactics1.htm

Bentonite does tend to cause constipation, however, it shouldn't affect the effectiveness of the laxatives. Just make sure to drink lots of water!

It stopped my indigestions
by Wonder on Feb 16, 2013

I'm not sure what exact component we have in Nigeria, but we used it in boarding school during the chicken pox outbreak, and truthfully, I can barely find those spots on my body.

Also, just recently after I had ended some days of fasting, I discovered I would have indigestion over the slightest food I ate. I could have a small meal in the morning and before 2pm, I'm having a bloated stomach and passing foul smelling gas (rotten egg smell) from my mouth. It was so bad that even a meal at 6pm would still result in indigestion the morning after! And this happened well over a week! I purchased some clay, we call it "Nzu" in igbo language, "Ndom" in Ibibio language and I started licking some before and after meals, especially evening meals, of course with water too. I didn't even notice when the gas stopped!

There's a common misconception that it sucks blood. I had never believed something natural and God given would do any harm! I just love to lick some clay sometimes and I have a reasonable chunk in my house.

Lead poisoning in Baby
by Sonya on Feb 9, 2013

My baby (and the rest of our family) just found out we have really high levels of lead. Our baby and 2 year old have the highest, and the doctor can't treat the 8 month old. If we bathe in this, and take it orally, any recommendations? My 8 mo. old lead level is 21.6 and the 2 year old is 12.5. We've moved but want to detox.

Question Please
by Leslie on Jan 16, 2013

I have been considering detox for some time and after finding your site and reading the reveiws it appears I cannot go wrong with your products. I do however have a question regarding the two types of clay powder. Is either type of clay better then the other (Sodium vs Calcium) when using it in the bath? Or is the difference only specific to ingesting the clay?

Thank you!

    Re: Question Please
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 1, 2013

The Calcium is more effective as a re-mineralizer, whereas the Sodium is more effective in getting rid of toxins whether taken internally or externally.

Color
by Veta on Jan 13, 2013

I what the clay can do. I have been using it for about two weeks. But today it turned from a white powder a tint of blue/green...is this ok? Or is something wrong?

    Re: Color
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 29, 2013

Sorry for not getting to answering your question sooner!! I would not use it if it is discolored. I'm not sure what could be causing it to change color though, unless it is touching metal or something.

Is it good for chemotherapy?

It should be fine as long as it is taken at-least 2 hrs. before or after the treatment, however I would advise checking with your Dr. first!

gums
by jan on Jan 5, 2013

I had trouble with receeding gums and tried everything. Needed dental implants and have many crowns. I even tried chlorine dioxide. My problems ended with bentonite clay. The best is to make a dry water bentonite mix - put it on a small strip of non absorbable paper about 3 cm long and then apply to teeth. It will stick like glue. Leave it overnight. I have no trouble using it - the following day you will not believe the results. Tonight I will try to mix some clay with colloidal silver.

Dogs?

    Re: Dogs?

You can give it to your dog by just evenly coating her dog food with it but you will want to make sure she drinks plenty of water if that's possible!

psoriasis

    Re: psoriasis

Her skin may be to delicate for this clay yet but I suggest using Eden salve and also bathing her in the Herbal Baby Bath mix. The mother might also consider taking in nutritional teas so the baby gets plenty of nutrition!

bentonite clay
by JAN on Dec 28, 2012

Just wondering how to blend the bentonite clay & water for baths and for ingesting internally if you are not supposed to use anything metal: (wire whisk, fork, blender, etc)

    Re: bentonite clay
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 28, 2013

    Hello!
You actually can use a metal whisk or other utensil to mix it with but the reason we say not to is because you ONLY want to allow it to be in the clay while your mixing. Once you've finished mixing (which should only take a few seconds) then the metal or plastic utensil should be taken out immediately or it will begin to soak up the heavy metals! The best thing to use would be a wooden spoon.

Does the clay help Psoriasis?

Storage Question
by Lindsey on Dec 15, 2012

I wondered how long this mask will last for? I want to make some as Christmas gifts, but I wondered how long they last in a glass storage container? Also, you said you use Chamomile in the mask recipe, is that also a powder form, or in a liquid form?

    Re: Storage Question
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 28, 2013

If you make the mask mix as gifts it is best given in powder form and allowing them to mix liquid in themselves. The powder will last months and months. The chamomile would be powdered form.

Clay toothpaste & salve
by AK on Nov 29, 2012

I want to thank you for the wealth of info you offer on your site, & the other people's posts as well. They are all very helpful, so I'd like to add my story.
I was bitten on the ankle by 'something' one evening, while in the Caribbean. I didn't see it, just felt something & brushed at my leg. Later that eve, I was alarmed to see a rather large, purplish, swollen blister there that was weeping. I didn't have any clay with me, but I had some salve I'd made from your Eden salve recipe, so I smeared it on & bandaged it overnite. I used this several times while on holiday, & it healed. I was left with a purple mark however, the size of a quarter. When I got home, I had some toothpaste I'd made [again, from your recipe] & put some on. Every time I used it, the purple mark faded & shrunk. THANK YOU!! I don't know what kind of insect bite it was, but I suspect it prob had 8 legs. I will not be going on hols again without my own toothpaste & salve. BLESS YOU!!

Acne
by Arenee on Nov 27, 2012

Hello, I have very bad cystic acne. Have been on two rounds of Accutane and I really dont want to do another round the side effects are extreme! I'm desperate..do you think this will help my acne as we know all acne isn't equal "cystic acne is very painful and complex. Do you think the clay will help, or what do you suggest and how should I use it to be effective. Thanks

    Re: Acne
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 28, 2013

The clay would be excellent internally as well as externally, however, you may need to do more. As I stated in an above comment most skin conditions are the result of a toxic liver that is working very poorly so you should consider a liver cleanse first and of course cleaning up the diet is a huge step in the right direction! Diet such as: Gluten free, Non-GMO(as much as possible), sugar free, and stay away from casein! Raw foods are best!

Water Filters
by Jenny Killeen on Nov 21, 2012

Would it be possible to make some sort of water filter using the Bentinite???

I am at present trying it out for my candida.

I was also wondering if it could help Macular Degeneration

    Re: Water Filters
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 28, 2013

I have never heard of using Bentonite as a water filter but I would suggest researching to see if it can be used! I can't say for sure that it will help Macular Degeneration as I can't diagnose or guarantee what will help this problem but if I were to use something it would be bilberry and I would also try some of our other herbs good for the eyes!

Bentonite Clay okay for plumbing/septic system?
by Ali on Oct 29, 2012

Just wondering if anyone knows if bentonite clay is okay to flush down the sink/tub - will it clog or harm the plumbing, and is it safe for use with septic systems? Thanks!

Re: Bentonite Clay okay for plumbing/septic system?
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 15, 2013

You would want to let the tub water set overnight so the clay settles on the bottom then drain the water in the morning. If you let all the clay go down the drain it could clog the pipes.

Bentonite clay for ringworm
by Kristie on Oct 24, 2012

Hi! I appreciate your helpful advice. I've been using your website to get help for my son's ringworm. He has scalp ringworm, where the fungus resides farther under the tissue (so topical treatments don't help right away). Epsom salts have been drawing out infection for him, and I wondered if you think this product would also draw out the fungus and infection. Also, do you know if this conflicts with the anti-fungal medicine he is taking (griseofulvin). Our doctor is not familiar with natural remedies, so I'm sure he will not know. Thanks!

bentonite clay and nursing?
by Rachel on Oct 21, 2012

So from what I'm reading about using this clay internally during pregnancy to relieve morning sickness, can I assume that it is also safe to use internally while nursing? I've read that you shouldn't do a detox while pregnant/nursing but am I correct in thinking that this is safe because it does not release the toxins into your bloodstream/milk supply and removes them through your digestive tract instead? Thanks for the advice.

    Re: bentonite clay and nursing?
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 15, 2013

Yes! Bentonite Clay is the safe one to use while pregnant and nursing. Be sure to drink plenty of water!

4 year infection cured with one treatment
by Danielle on Oct 19, 2012

I had an infected belly button for 4 years, since my daughter was born. I asked numerous doctors and even had a sonogram performed to see if during my c-section something was left behind that was bothering it from the inside. We found nothing. I tried prescriptions as well as every homeopathic remedy I could think of.
I purchased the clay to help my husband with his belly issues but decided one night to make a paste for my belly button.....that was over 2 months ago. Infection never came back.
Miracle. That's all I can say about this clay!! Now if only it would start helping me with my laundry :)

A must have for Poisonous bites!
by Lauren Lockhart on Oct 12, 2012

Three weeks ago I got bitten in the middle of the night while sleeping by a poisonous spider, I'm assuming? I awoke to a swollen ankle that quickly turned bright red. By mid morning the swelling was increasing and the redness was beginning to go up my leg. I immediately began taking the bentonite internally and made poultice packs with the bentonite after I had soaked it in warm water to open the pores on my foot and leg. Within three days the swelling was almost gone and the redness had decreased by nearly 75%! I am thankful for this powerful little clay! It kept me from spending big bucks in the ER and getting injected with tons of antibiotics. This is a must have for any home!!

Bentonite clay
by J on Sep 7, 2012

My daughter was 15 and started having trouble with her gallbladder. She was in so much pain that she went to many different doctors but no relief. Her gallbladder would swell up so bad that it would stick out of her skin and be so hot to the touch. Finally she went to discuss having it removed. She was hospitalized and for a week they prepared her for surgery but the surgeon and the anesthesiologist disagreed whether she should have the surgery that day or not. After a week I took her out of the hospital and vowed to find something natural to help her. After lots of research I found a product that contained bentonite clay and bought it for her. She took it as directed for two weeks and immediately the pain was gone and no more problems with her gallbladder. We changed her diet to be more gallbladder friendly. When she has a flair up with her gallbladder she takes the bentonite clay for two weeks and is immediately better. It was miraculous after a year in bed in pain to feeling better than normal again. I do recommend it as a cleanser. It works.

Makeup and a Cleanser All in One!
by Anna Burns on Sep 2, 2012

I love this stuff! So far I have made toothpaste with it, used a clay mask, and my most recent and exciting discovery - made a cosmetic facial powder! I discovered that by mixing a little cocoa with dry bentonite clay, until it matches my skin color, I can effectively cover up blemishes and even my skin tone! I just use my fingers to rub it in, and as long as it's the right color, it looks great! I think a little beet powder mixed in would also help to make it match your skin color. Then, when I'm ready to wash my makeup off, it can double as a thin clay mask! I simply wet it a little and let it dry before washing if off, and it does the work of drawing out impurities and cleansing my skin! It's makeup and a cleanser all in one!

Amazing for venomous caterpillar sting
by Andie on Sep 1, 2012

Two nights ago I was stung extensively by an Io moth caterpillar. Dozens of the barbs had made contact, over a 2 inch x 1 inch area! Shock, burning, itching, swelling, headache, metallic taste, weakness and dizziness, and some systemic itchy spots ...nasty critter! Still having a disconcerting array of symptoms this morning.

So today I find advice online to apply a Bentonite mud to it. I thought, Hey! I have some of that in the pantry, though I'd never used it for anything.

Bottom line? This stuff is amazing, nearly all of the symptoms are gone, less that 30 minutes later. Wow. Wow. This going on the list of things to stock up on when extra cash comes my way.

Irritation healed!
by Lisa Pittman on Aug 26, 2012

Bite
by Donna on Aug 25, 2012

My Husband was staining the house and he needed to finish even though it was After 9:00PM. As I held a Light on the section he was working , I brushed against a shrub ang felt an immediate sting and burn which became red and before I got to the house I had raised rash the size of a 50 cent piece. I put wet redmond clay on it and covered it with saran wrap over night and the next day. When I removed it , there was nothing but it began to tingle in that area where I was bit when the clay was removed. No reddness, swelling, or rash. The tingling went away by the next day. This stuff is miraculous.

White clay is not the same but you can use bentonite unless the recipe specifically calls for white clay. Do some research to see what the differences are between the two!

Healed my spider bite!
by Alicia Trotter on Aug 1, 2012

I use Bentonite Clay as a mask and apply it directly to bee stings or bug bites that are swollen and feverish. I had a bad spider bite that had spread from the size of a quarter to the size of my whole arm from elbow to arm pit. It was feverish and really red. I applied a mask of the clay and left it on for 30 min. I repeated this 3 times in one day and it was already on its way to healing. After 2 days it was completely gone. It extracted the poison in my arm and I was healed.

Daughter developed skin rash from her braces
by Rhonda on Jul 21, 2012

My 7 year old daughter had orthodontic work done about 5 months ago to correct an overbite that was causing sleep apnea. After a few months the Herbst device attached to the braces, unbeknownst to me, had created a fissure in her cheek. She developed a rash around her mouth.

A friend began to circulate our toothpaste video and I thought I'd give it a try (since another friend had given me some BHS BC a year ago that I had NOT used). I was doing this for me but Marley Scout does what momma does and insisted on using my "homemade toothpaste.". I immediately noticed the rash was gone 24 hours after she started using the paste.

It was not until Marley over heard me mentioning to my friend that he rash was going away and I suspected the BC was helping....then Marley showed me the fissure in her cheek. "See mom your toothpaste is helping my sore heal too.". I could NOT believe how big it was. Within a few weeks it has totally healed!

question
by Esther on Jul 21, 2012

Shoshanna, does the bentonite clay have to be food grade? I can only find health shops that charge >$14NZD for a few hundred grams and I need more to do a bath. Some farm/agriculture shops supply it in bulk for animals or fish ponds, for a bit cheaper, but wanted to know what you thought. :) I'm doing my own 'research' and it seems ok so far. ps. I would buy from you, but with international postage I can't afford another shop at your lovely store...for now:)

    Re: question
by Bulk Herb Store on Dec 11, 2012

Food Grade is best especially if taking internally. The bentonite is not only pulling heavy metals out of your body but it feeds minerals to your body as well. If you do not use food grade just make sure you buy from a reliable source.

Digestive Tract
by Michelle on Jul 17, 2012

Our daughter began to have accidents well after being potty trained. As they got worse we sought medical help. THREE YEARS, several docotors, several trips across the country, hundreds of tests and xrays, several prescriptions, and even many trips to a pediatric gastroenterologist later she was still having the same issues! She has an enlarged colon due to severe blockage. They still don't know the cause but none of the medicines they gave her had good results (NOT TO MENTION THE HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS) so I threw them away and gave her a clay/psyllium husk shake every morning. Within 4 days she began to pass long ropes of mucoid plaque! Within a week she was having regular bowel movements and now 6 months later is still impaction and accident free! We just have to continue until her colon is shrunk to normal size. Praise God for his healing, this stuff is amazing!

how do you take it internally?
by Stéphanie on Jul 11, 2012

Hi! We just received our first order. I have a question concerning how to take bentonite clay internally. From what I read on this page, I get the impression that you mix it with a liquid and drink it right away.

Here in Switzerland, they say to mix the clay with water in the evening, let it soak during the night and then drink only the water in the morning (you can drink the whole thing IF you don't have any digestive problems or after taking it for a while). However, we can only find montmorillonite clay here, not bentonite. Does it make a difference?

I would really appreciate any insight on this, especially since I also ordered some for a friend who has really bad candida-related digestive problems.

Thank you for your excellent products and for making it easier for us to take care naturally of our health!

Last I night I had posted that I was trying BC on my hand that was very swollen from a wasp sting. Thanks so much for all the information on this product and I can't wait to try it for different things!

Amazed
by Amber on Jul 2, 2012

As I am reading all of these testimonies, I have a large slab of Bentonite Clay on my hand. I am amazed at all the wonderful things this stuff can do!

Yesterday evening I was stung by a red wasp on the top of my hand. I have never swollen up bad from stings, so I put some plantain on it and thought nothing else about it. About an hour later my hand started to ache and swell pretty bad. Through the night and into today I have tried all sorts of home remedies. Nothing has seemed to work. A good friend called this evening and told me she had something for me to try. She had heard about, but not tried, the Bentonite Clay and had ordered some from you.

So far, the pain has relieved and I will definitely be ordering some for my household. Thanks so much for all the wonderful information! I will let you know the outcome. :)

Much Increased Energy
by Laurel on Jun 23, 2012

I have an autoimmune condition that has produced such severe fatigue that I had to quit working and go on disability. The fatigue continued to worsen to the point where I could only shower every two weeks, couldn't get to the grocery store much less cook anything, and at times had to pull myself up the stairs and then collapse, panting for breath. The first dose I took of the clay gave me so much energy that I couldn't go to sleep at night. But from there on, I have had enough energy to take care of myself again. I am so grateful for this miraculous gift from Mother Nature.

What about Lymes Disease toxins?
by Nor'easter on Jun 22, 2012

Curious to know if this clay would remove the Lymes Disease toxins (and the resulting toxins from the routine antibiotic usage). My DH has just come home with doxycycline for Lymes. I've not prepared for this even though we live in the NE where Lymes is prevalent, but I'm trying to find the best healing protocol now. Any advice is very much appreciated!

Hello Nor'easter! Of course I can't give you any medical advice but I can make a suggestion. Get on all organic foods and go dairy, gluten, and casein free. Bentonite Clay will be helpful in assisting with the detox but The Liver Cleanse Tincture and Detox + would be excellent for you to do. For more info please contact us a Bulk Herb Store through email or phone! We will be able to answer you much more promptly that way and give you more info!

I'm starting this weekend...which product to use?
by Sue on Jun 22, 2012

I have both the bentonie clay and detox + as I really need to clean the metals out of my body. Which product do you suggest I start with and for how long? When the detox starts, is it a "run to the bathroom quick" or slow process?

Re: I'm starting this weekend...which product to use?
by Bulk Herb Store on Nov 21, 2012

It does not matter which one that you start with but I would suggest using the bentonite for bathing in and using the detox + internally. Bathing in bentonite really helps kick start a detox! Detox + has different effects for different people but it shouldn't make you run for the bathroom too much. Just be sure to drink plenty of water while on it and maybe even take extra fiber. Detox can be bulky stuff so you want to make sure you don't get constipated!

Clears up allergies!
by Ryan and Nessa Knudson on Jun 11, 2012

My little girl has skin allergies that are set off by just about anything. We tried a new "all natural" soap that had peppermint oil and she broke out in itchy, puffy, red hives all over her body. I gave her a Bentonite clay bath and let her sit with clay on all the rashes for 30 minutes. Afterward she stopped complaining and crying of the itching and went to sleep. By morning her skin was soft and completely rash free, except for one little spot that I left as a test area. It was still swollen and rashy. I love the stuff and am now taking it internally. Thanks!

Turned out it was MERSA. I had her use the clay on the sores and she began to get better. Now she has to be very careful
about scratching any bug bites, as they will turn into MERSA again. after reading this page, I will have her ingest the clay to get rid of the germ in her body.

We have been using your Bentonite clay for years - both topically and internally. Face masks, bug bites, skin infections and heavy metals have been warded off and resolved!

Toothpaste, Wow!!
by Adee on May 26, 2012

I have had the clay and have used it effectively for some time now. Recently when I saw your post for toothpaste I decided to try it. I made a very small batch bringing to a boil a couple of cinnamon sticks with less than a cup of water and a couple of cloves (because I know them to be antiseptic) and only mixed in enough clay to get it pasty with a bit of sea salt (didn't feel I needed the sugar). I had been having really bad gum inflammation on one side of my mouth. I am please to say that after only two mornings and two nights the inflammation is down and the pain minimized and my teeth...looking brighter already! The taste without the sugar is barely noticeable but then again, I enjoy the earthy taste for some awkward reason.
I'm sold! I was using an "organic" non fluoridated brand but will probably be giving that up in lieu of my own homemade version. Thanks a bunch Shoshana!

When taking this internally what is the clay to water ratio? I have always bought the Bentonite clay already in the clay form to take orally. Thanks!

Can you use bentonite clay on your hair?
by Sara on May 7, 2012

For the past 4 months I've suffered from stinky scalp. I normally use natural shea butter shampoos and never had a problem, but one day my head just started smelling really bad. Now, after just a couple hours of washing my hair, my scalp starts to smell really bad. The only thing that controls the smell is using head and shoulders shampoo, which has a ton of chemicals that I hate putting on my body.
Would the bentonite clay help my hair and scalp?
I would really like to go back to natural shampoos!

Sorry to hear that, Sara! I would defiantly use Bentonite Clay internally and externally, and would start taking Detox Plus. Also, consider what could have brought on this change- diet, new vitamins, new home cleaners, spraying for bugs, swimming? Sometimes our body's can't properly absorb vitamins or get rid of toxins, and believe it or not, having it come out in your scalp is a good thing! Figuring out the underlying cause and stopping it will make a huge difference! Detoxing with Bentonite Clay and Detox Plus with have you smelling like roses in no time!

Facial Mask and Spot Treatment.
by Deeter on May 5, 2012

I use a Bentonite clay facial mask weekly. I make a relatively thin mixture using mineral water, a drop or two of French lavender oil, a drop of peppermint oil and of course the clay. Leave it to dry naturally and then rinse with lukewarm water. Pat dry. Finish by moisturizing with organic Argan oil and soon your skin will be glowing!

I save any of the mixture that I have left for spot-treating blemishes. Apply a heavier coat and leave on overnight. My blemishes are always gone in the morning.

On to the toothpaste!

Brown Recluse bite
by C. Cook on Sep 29, 2010

My dad a number of years ago was complaining of cramps in his intestines. He was seen by numerous doctors. They ran test after test and found nothing wrong with him. He called me to ask what I would do. When I suggested he take bentonite clay, he laughed because I told him to eat dirt. He was having so much pain he said he was willing to try anything. He started with a small amount and worked his way up to a couple of tablespoons a day. After taking it for three days, the cramping calmed. After a week the pain was gone. The best I can guess was he had so much toxin built up in his body and needed to get it out, which is just what the bentonite clay was able to do for him.

Another experience I have had with bentonite clay was when my husband was bitten by a brown recluse spider. He had a serious Staphylococcus infection but refused to go to the doctor. I mixed the clay with water and placed it on the infected areas several times a day and had him take it internally as well. It took a couple of weeks for him to heal and he does have scar's but he is alive and well after two bites on the leg from a brown recluse! Praise the Lord, He provides all we need.

Smoking and Cats
by Angela on Nov 24, 2009

Two weeks ago my daughter-in-law put dog flea medicine on her cat. She did it at 10pm, went to bed and work the next day. My grandaughter came home from school the following day and found the cat convulsing, shaking, and eyes completely black from the pupils being so dilated.

She called me bawling and I told her there was only one thing I know of that will even have a chance to save the cat...bentonite clay. The cat didn't even resist when it was administered with a syringe. In a few hours he started to improve, then after that he started improving by the minute. By morning he was playing again and is now completely normal.

I have seen this clay cure up some of the nastiest infections ever. I also used it to stop smoking and my son is using it now to cleanse himself of nicotine and it's working for him too.

It's a "medicine" that no home should be without.

Renews Memory and Combats Fatigue
by Customer on Sep 9, 2009

Please let everyone there know... I had two teeth removed in January that both had amalgams. I have been having memory issues beyond the norm and amazing fatigue. I was hoping that it could be caused by mercury and that, perhaps, the clay would help. After a week of the Bentonite Clay, I felt better. By the end of the month, I felt almost entirely like myself again.

Thanks so much for what you do!!

Really Works!
by Customer on Jul 30, 2009

I woke up one morning with three tiny blisters on my stomach area, two of which didn't cause much trouble, but the third turned really bad, getting infected and swollen badly. After two days and lots of research on spider bites, I found the bite was a bad one and got information on someone who had heard of using clay on bites with great results. They had used French green clay but suggested any clay should work. It happened we had some in the freezer with our herbs so i made a poultice and after a few hours it started feeling better. The next day it was much improved and no more pus was oozing out. The Bentonite clay has worked wonders- thank you!

Bentonite for the Pox
by Rebecca on Jun 2, 2009

I just read your article in NGJ about bentonite clay. As I was reading it, it occurred to me that a bath in bentonite clay might be beneficial to my son who has chicken pox. So I followed what you did in your bath. I had him plaster the clay under his pits etc, and on every pox we could find, some were very big and angry looking. I stayed in there talking to him and
keeping him occupied for about an hour. He thought it was fun taking a bath with dirt (where I live all dirt is clay)! Long story short, his pox shrunk!! And they don't look so angry. So forget the oatmeal baths, do bentonite for chicken pox. I just wish I had thought of it sooner, he was the last child to get it!

Spider Bites, oh my!
by Paula on Mar 19, 2009

I've just placed my second order of bentonite clay. One night as I was putting my son to bed, I noticed a rather large inflamed spider bite on the back of his leg. I don't know why it hadn't bothered him enough for him to mention it. Anyway, I mixed up some bentonite clay with water and smeared a thick coat on the bite. The next day I did the same thing several times. It took a few days to clear it up, but the bentonite clay did the trick. Later I learned from a medical book from the description of the bite that I should have taken him to the doctor. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. We've used bentonite clay as a facial mask, on insect bites, and all sort of maladies. Our home will never be without it again!

Morning Sickness
by Kristy on Apr 9, 2008

I also take Bentonite Clay to relieve morning sickness- I'm 14 weeks pregnant and have found it to help greatly in relieving nausea. I took it with juice every morning the first few weeks and, boy, could I tell if I missed a day! It works great.

Bentonite Clay
by Laura from TN on Sep 9, 2007

Just a word of caution on mixing this valuable and miraculous clay.. NO METAL! The metal changes the chemical compound of clay. It can be used on all animals, I use it on horses, dogs, cats, humans. I drink the clay gel mix... it is a wonderful product but it must not be mixed with a metal spoon or bowl, metal is a no- no. I use wooden spoons and have found that the best water to use is distilled water as it enhances the clay with it's natural ability to eliminate toxins and drive them from the body. I have been using bentonite clay for over 20 years.. It is the best living clay there is... Thanks

Morning Sickness Cure
by Christy on Nov 14, 2006

Someone recomended this to me when I was pregnant with the third. I took one teaspoon of clay in a glass of water in the evening and in the morning when I woke up my morning sickness was non existent! From then on I took it twice a day until I was well past my third tri-mester. Adding lemon to the water helps the taste but it really isn't that bad.

Bentonite clay powder for stings
by 1ofeach on Sep 13, 2006

Just today I received my order of Bentonite clay from the Bulk Herb Store. My children were outside playing when the package came in the mail. About half an hour later my son came in complaining of sharp pain on his shoulder. Poor dear, it was his first sting. I immediately opened the bentonite clay, mixed a little with some water and applied it to his shoulder. Within minutes he said the pain was better. Now he's back to playing outside.

Praise be to God for His perfect timing, and for His gifts of herbs!

Are you saying that if a person is bitten by a snake, that you could make a poultice and apply it to the site to draw out the venom? And would you take it internally simultaneously? I am fairly new to herbs, and I am so grateful for your experience. Thank you

    Re: bentonite clay-powder
by Bulk Herb Store on Sep 4, 2006

Yes, Bentonite clay, activated charchoal, plantain, etc. are all used internally and externally to draw out poisons from the body, such as venom from a snake bite. We've learned this and much more from reading our books.

Please, take a moment and comment on this product.

I wanted to thank you for your youtube videos. They are fantastic!!! About a week ago my oldest daughter who is 8 was home sick with strep so we watched ALL of the videos. She loved them as much as I do. This past weekend we went to a health food store and while I was checking out their herbs I overheard my 8 year old teaching my 5 year old which herbs were hard and which were soft herbs. I couldn't help but chuckle. Then my 8 yr old looked at me and said "Remember mom, what Shoshanna taught us, I am showing Emily." I then had to tell her to stop squeezing the merchandise :) but told her how proud I was of her for teaching her sister. Thanks again for all the wonderful information you provide on this site.

-Jennifer
