It is an amazing book designed to teach us how to heal fast, painlessly without the need of skin grafts. That's amazing. God gave us what we needed right in the weeds. I now make a salve that works wonders.

Learned How to Heal Daughter's Burns
by Tracey on Sep 10, 2009

I read this book while waiting with an Amish mama having an unusually long labor. It intrigued me, and I made a note of the ingredients. I had most of them at home, so started the oils and herbs soaking the next day.

A few weeks later we started the fire in the wood stove for the first time that year. My almost 2 yr old daughter was trained to stay away from the stove the previous year, but as brother moved the safety gate away to reload the stove Emily came running to help - tripped, and received 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her palms and wrists. The 3rd degree burns measured 1 inch wide and 3 inches long on her tiny arms. I grabbed the oils I had made, added as many of the rest of the ingredients as I had, and went to the fridge for lettuce as the season for burdock was gone. I slathered the leaves and wrapped her hands and arms, then wrapped it all in gauze. Her crying stopped almost instantly, and it had been horrible. We changed the leaves daily. She cried as I removed the spent leaves, but was fine as soon as the new leaves were in place.

I wish I had taken pictures of the burns, because the healing was amazing. The dead skin sloughed off with the old leaves, No scrubbing was needed, and within 3 weeks the burns were still tender but completely healed over. Now she is nearly 4, and even if you know she was burned, the scars are almost impossible to find. I was very thankful that God placed this book in my path, and that mama and I have discussed one of the "fruits" that came of her long labor.

Practical Help
by The Pauls on Aug 24, 2009

Hello! I just wanted to write and thank you for carrying Comfort for the Burned and Wounded.

Last week, while we were driving home I was cutting open a package with my husband's SHARP pocket knife. I wasn't thinking and was cutting towards myself. Well, as you might have guessed the knife slipped and ended up in my leg. I applied pressure until we got home and then proceeded to clean it. Well I am not good with wounds so I had to call my dear husband in. He just finished reading Comfort for the Burned and Wounded. He covered my gash, went to the yard, picked plantain, scalded it, and then applied it like Mr. Keim discusses in the book. The pain went AWAY, and within three days, all I have is a small scab! Before this book, I would have been in the ER for a few stitches, and our pocket book lighter! We thank you again!

John Keim has valuable experience and knowledge treating burns and wounds. Living in an Amish community, where doctors are not employed readily, he has effectively healed hundreds of people using his herbal remedies.
In Comfort for the Burned and Wounded he shares his choice methods and favorite herbs with the reader.
I would have liked to see more lists and easy to understand step-by-step process. However, a theme of Keimís is versatility, using what you have available. This prepares the reader to treat the unexpected burns and wounds, which is quite important.
