Herbal Mixes: Double-E Immune Booster - Organically Grown Herbs

Contains Naturally Caffeine Free, Organically Grown: Nettle Leaf Peppermint Leaf Echinacea Root Echinacea Tops, Elderberries whole, Eleuthero Root and Rosehips

New research has opened amazing advances into herbal medicine, including information that will help rev up the immune system. We continually research and upgrade our pre-mixes to include all the best herbs available.

Flu, virus, and infections all are enemies ready to lay us low. Our natural immune system is our first and best defense. God gave us leaves, roots and good sense to help us keep our immune systems working in top order to avoid sickness.

One easy way to keep the immune system in high gear is raw garlic, but it stinks so bad that we use our Double “E” Immune Booster. Our new recipe, which includes the whole Echinacea plant and Elderberry herb (as well as several other immune boosting herbs), has proven to be a fast and effective way to provide the body with the defense it needs in times of repair.

The premixed herbs can be made into a tea for a fast and effective way to provide the body with the goodness of each herb.

I also make this recipe into a tincture every year. It takes an effort, but then I make enough tincture (a gallon) to last the whole year for my household and my children’s children plus many extra folks that need it. The tincture made from this recipe is dark and smells strongly of the dried herbs. I know it is effective because I have used it for many years.

I have used honey in the place of glycerine and it works well but the honey is not as pleasant tasting. I have also made an alcohol tincture and mixed it half and half with the finished glycerine tincture to help cut the sweet taste of the glycerine. I like it much better this way but while my children were small I always used just glycerine.

Directions

Alcohol tinctures (extracts) are easy to make. Fill a glass jar 1/3 - 1/2 full of the premixed herbs (1/2 full of herbs makes a stronger brew), and top off the jar to within about 1/2 inch from the top with rum or vodka. Cap the jar and set it in a dark, cool place for about 3 weeks (shake mixture daily). Then, strain off and discard herbs saving the liquid herbal tincture in glass containers that are clearly labeled and capped.

As adults, we take 1/2 – 1 teaspoon (30 – 60 drops or so) every hour at the first sign of a cold or flu (any infection) until the symptoms disappear. We use less for children. Alcohol, glycerine or a mixture of the two is a good investment for a year’s supply of immune defense.

For more information on making tinctures using alcohol or glycerine, see the Preparing Remedies page. The following books have been our best references on making our own tinctures at home over the years:

From Our Reading and/or Experience...

  • Unlike most herbs which can be consumed as a life-long daily supplement, the Immune Booster should only be used in times of need. That is, as soon as you feel you are coming down with something or are sick.
  • This dry herb mixture can be brewed into a tea. It can also be ground up into powder and encapsulated. The tinctures would be more effective, but some folks simply prefer teas or capsules.
  • The Immune Booster can be used to benefit men, women (including before, during, and after pregnancy, and nursing), and children.
  • It can be used as often as you would like.
  • As is the case with most herbs, this mixture should be stored in a dark, dry, and cool place. Refrigeration or freezing is great, but certainly not necessary. Following these suggestions will delay the loss of its highly valued nutritional and medicinal properties.
  • Follow the same instructions for storage after you make it into a tincture. We do not use any bottles in particular, but recycle empty glass bottles, whenever possible.
  • An alcohol tincture (extract) doesn't taste the greatest but is the most effective way to draw out the goodness of the herbs, and are the easiest to make. For those two reasons alone, alcohol tinctures are the industry standard in all ready-made store bought tinctures. They also keep the longest (at least 2 years).
  • Glycerine tinctures (or glycerites), though not as effective, are much more palatable with their sweet flavor. However, they will only keep for up to one year or so.
  • A combination of both alcohol and glycerine has the benefits of both (effectiveness, sweet flavor, and longer shelf life).

I just used Double E Immune Booster Tincture three days ago. I felt like I was getting a cold and immediately started Double E every hour and Umcka cold care tablets every three hours. In two days time I didn't have any more symptoms. I have an weak immune system due to pseudomonas bacteria in my sinuses too. I can't get over the huge difference Double E made!

Safe during pregnancy?
by Abi on Feb 27, 2014

Hi! I'm looking for a tea that can help with the common cold but I am also pregnant. Is this tea safe to use during pregnancy? If not, any recommendations?

    Re: Safe during pregnancy?
by Bulk Herb Store on Feb 28, 2014

    Hello,
We don't recommend drinking this while pregnant, because of the Eluethero, and Peppermint in it. However, you make your own mix of herbs for a tea without those ingredients. Thanks!

works like a charm :)
by Christina on Feb 5, 2014

I bought this tea a while back to give it a try during winter cold season but fortunately haven't had to use it until now. a good indication to noticing I'm coming down with something, is the swelling/hurting of the lymph nodes on my neck. woke up to this a couple days ago and have been drinking this tea since then (tea steeper filled with as much as tea as fits, then re-steeped throughout the day). the swelling has already gone down severly and I am not feeling sick at all!
recommend this BIG tim! :)

only question I have, is there a certain amount consumed a day that should not be exceeded???

Re: works like a charm :)
by Bulk Herb Store on Feb 12, 2014

    Hello,
I'm so glad that you like it! You can't overdose on this when you are sick! Drinks lots while you feel icky. We don't recommend that you continue to drink it in enormous amounts after you aren't sick but otherwise just enjoy!

Straining this herb tincture
by Darla M on Jan 27, 2014

We have been buying Echinacea tinctures locally for years and using with great success to fight off signs of a cold. Bought your Double-E Immune Booster Mix to make our own and am so amazed at how easy and cost efficient this is. One question about your glycerine instructions to pour a small amount of hot water over herbs after straining...Poured off the tincture, squeezed the herbs, then tried to pour as little water as necessary to make contact with all the herbs before giving them a last squeeze. The water seemed to almost double the amount of tincture in the jar...should this happen? Did I pour the water incorrectly, diluting the tincture too much and need to start over? Thank you.

    Re: Straining this herb tincture
by Bulk Herb Store on Jan 31, 2014

    Hello,
It should be just fine to use, however you may want to just take more than you usually would when trying to ward off colds since it is a more diluted form. Thanks!

Really works!!
by ELIZABETH WATERS on Jan 8, 2014

We use this in a tea at the onset of cold and flu symptoms. My kids drink it with the organic honey in it both hot and cold. It really really works to lessen the length and severity of our illnesses. Whenever something's running rampant through the neighborhood, our kids either don't get the illness, or have a shorter duration and less severe reaction. Love this product!

Double e vs iM life
by Amy on Jan 1, 2014

Just wondering about the anti-cancer claim on your im life mixture. My aunt is finishing chemo for cancer and I was wondering if this would be something to recommend to her? Do you have clinical proof that I could show her so she wouldn't be hesitant to take it? also do you have dosing recommendations?

Re: Double e vs iM life
by Bulk Herb Store on Jan 15, 2014

    Hello,
Unfortunately we are not licensed physicians therefore we cannot give any anti-cancer claims, however the IM Life mixture is extremely helpful in reducing inflammation and fighting infection. For dosages, I would recommend 1-2 Tbsp a day and do 3 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Thanks!

I am in the process of the alcohol tincture and use the Double E regularly as a tea.Can I add the glycerine to the alcohol mixture after strained to sweeten it up, if so how much per cup of alcohol tincture?

    Re: tincture
by Bulk Herb Store on Dec 16, 2013

    Hello,
Sure you could try adding glycerine, maybe 1/3 a cup to a cup of alcohol or you might want to try adding stevia to sweeten the tincture. Thanks!

glycerin tincture
by Kathryn on Dec 7, 2013

how do you make this tea a glycerin tincture? I have an almost two year old and eight year old.

    Re: glycerin tincture
by Bulk Herb Store on Dec 9, 2013

    Hello,
To make this into a Glycerin tincture fill a mason jar 1/2-2/3 of the way full and then add a mixture of 2 parts water 3 parts glycerin. Put jar into a slow cooker or crockpot surrounded by water and a towel underneath the jar to keep from burning. Cook for 3 days and then strain herbs out of the glycerin and keep the syrup. Thanks!

How much do you recommend for my little ones?
by LeAnna on Nov 13, 2013

We're out of town, & I'm so glad I brought double-e immune tea along! My two year old has been having cold/flu type symptoms, & six-yr-old has been running a fever. Been giving them each a little tea with virgin coconut oil & honey....how much do you recommend as a safe amount? Do you think I could steep about 1tsp per cup of water, & give them 1/2-1 cup each, every 4 hrs or so....been giving once or twice a day, & it is soothing, but I was thinking more would be better.

Re: How much do you recommend for my little ones?
by Bulk Herb Store on Nov 14, 2013

    Hello!
What your doing is great! You could also make a glycerin tincture to give them as well to give them that extra boost!

Safety of double-e immune tea for pregnancy

The last time I had this type of bug, I drank it every 4 hours or so, & it worked great! I it safe to do some during pregnancy, or not recommended?

Re: Safety of double-e immune tea for pregnancy

Peppermint and Ginseng
by Ashley on Oct 29, 2013

I would like to order this product but am currently breastfeeding my seven week old. I read that peppermint decreases milk supply and ginseng could have adverse effects on mom and baby. I know you can not give medical advice, but I'm wondering if this would be safe to take while nursing. Have you seen any trouble with peppermint or ginseng while nursing? Thanks!

    Re: Peppermint and Ginseng
by Bulk Herb Store on Oct 30, 2013

Yes, you can take this while pregnant! Peppermint has been said it can lower your milk but only if large amounts are taken. With this being such a large mixture of herbs, this would not affect your milk. Thanks!

I'm excited to try your product
by amber on Oct 28, 2013

I should be getting your product soon, I'm excited to give it a try seeing that it is cold season starting already. My sister in law's kids get sick all the time and was wondering what would be good for them to take. The little one that is twelve months gets sick from birth. Just wasn't sure if there was something to help boost the immune system for kids especially the one 1 years old??

Re: I'm excited to try your product
by Bulk Herb Store on Oct 30, 2013

Hello! This is a great mix for boosting your immune system for adults and kids both! For the youngest, I would recommend making a tincture out of either apple cider vinegar or glycerin. You could also add garlic for extra immune boosting powers!

Question

So if I used glycerine, what would the shelf life be? Could I prolong that by freezing the tincture? Thank you!

    Re: Question
by Bulk Herb Store on Oct 17, 2013

Hello! Freezing tinctures is not recommended. The shelf life for glycerin tinctures is around 6 months to a year. Thanks!

Question about ordering
by Christina on Oct 12, 2013

I want to buy this to make a tincture, but am not sure how much to order. How much tincture does the .5 lb. bag make? Is just one .5 lb. order usually enough to last the whole year?

    Re: Question about ordering
by Bulk Herb Store on Oct 14, 2013

    Hello,
It all depends on how big your family is and how often you take it. There is no exact way of us being able to find that out. You would have to make a guesstimate. Thanks!

Question about the mix
by Tawna on Sep 22, 2013

So, my family lives in Okinawa, Japan (we're a Marine Corps family). I see you don't ship here but I would still like to make this particular tincture as I have for the past few years prior to moving here. Is this mix an equal mix of the herbs? If you can't answer that, I can totally understand that. But I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask!

    Re: Question about the mix

    Hello,
I'm sorry but we can;t give out our recipes for the mixes. we do ship to Japan though and we also ship APO's! Thanks!

Double E and Cough Tea

We've been using these tinctures for a few years now and they work! My children are even able to recognize when they are coming down with something and ask for "drops". Thank you for your great products, we love your other teas as well!

Can I make the glycerine mix in a crock pot?
by Arin McDermott on Sep 4, 2013

In your instructions on making a glycerine tincture it says to use a double boiler. I don't have one and was wondering if I can make it in a crock pot instead and if so how you would recommend I do it.

children
by Laura on Apr 19, 2013

Is this safe for little ones - like 10-12 months old? With the nasty illnesses this year, I want to see if there is something natural to keep it at bay.

    Re: children
by Bulk Herb Store on May 3, 2013

I would advise asking your pediatrician or a healthcare provider before giving to a child that young. I know most of the herbs in it are considered safe for children, however I don't know what the age limit is!

Great Preventative
by Sally on Apr 13, 2013

At the first sign of someone in our family getting sick, all of us start taking the Immune Booster to ward off an epidemic going through our home. Also, once a year our family is part of a large conference with many other kids. I give our family immune booster a week before we attend, and we have never come down sick as other families seem to every year. Thank you for a great product

pepperment & elder
by Britt on Feb 11, 2013

I read that peppermint and elder are not safe for pregnancy or should be used with caution :-( (according to Prescription of nutritional healing) is this true, I know that with herbs some are extra cautious, I mean mayo clinic says that pregnant woman should not even drink herbal tea which is bogus...

What is your opinion on peppermint and elder while pregnant, I would like to order this. I just made elder berry syrup too :-(

What about chamomile?

Thanks!!!!

    Re: pepperment & elder
by Bulk Herb Store on Apr 18, 2013

The Peppermint and Elderberries should be safe to use some every now and then, however I wouldn't take a whole lot or all the time, especially the peppermint. I would also be a little cautious with the Chamomile, especially during early pregnancy.

great stuff
by Anonymous on Jan 10, 2013

Last year I made this into a tincture but was still pretty new to herbs so it got some occasional use. I am usually the one that gets sick the most often. I was the kid that the doctor finally gave so many antibiotics to that he had to admit that he had become the one making me sick... so my immune system was pretty well shot and I'm generally sick most of the winter. So this year I've been using the tincture at any sign of any sickness and have only had problems with congestion. It has been awesome! I'm positive that this product has been the biggest cause of my much healthier year :)

question about Double-E Immune Booster
by LeaAnn on Dec 29, 2012

I have an auto immune disorder (Sjogrens), which means my immune system is over active will this product cause the immune system to be more active or just act as a natural antibiotic, the problems I have (besides the autoimmune disorder) are with chronic sinus infections

Re: question about Double-E Immune Booster
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 25, 2013

I am not sure how that would affect an overactive immune system. I am not very familiar with auto-immune disorders so I would suggest seeking medical advise or do extensive research of your own.

Double E
by Karla on Nov 7, 2012

which of these herbs should not be taken on a regular basis only when needed?
when you take garlic raw do you just swallow it whole or do you crush it first?

    Re: Double E
by Bulk Herb Store on Mar 15, 2013

Mainly the Echinacea should not be used every day. It is a powerful immune booster but if used to much your immune system could become immune to it. You should always crush the garlic to get its benefits. Thanks!

WOOHOO For Double-E Immune Booster!
by Cook Family on Nov 5, 2012

Amy has been telling me for 3 days that "I am NOT sick" as she sniffles and coughs her way through the day. Finally last evening she gave in. "Ok, now I really AM sick." By now it'd grown to full coughing, runny nose, feeling achy, had to leave church early and go to bed, spent the whole next day in bed and couldn't go to work, SICK. In our family, we're normally looking at 3-4 days from the time you admit to being sick, before you're really back on your feet again. I started dosing her with the Double-E Immune Boost Tincture that I'd made using the herb mix from BHS, along with some fresh garlic. That went on for only 1 full day. Today she woke up feeling much better, went to work, no coughing, still the last stages of a runny nose, voice sounds better, and definitely back in the game. WOOHOO. I'm convinced if she'd have started it sooner, like when I first started talking about it, she'd have never gotten to the point of a full on cold, but I could be wrong. Anyhow, YAY for another herbal success story. God did indeed bless us when He gave us herbs for healing! Thank You Lord.

Great Mix!
by Alisha on Sep 9, 2012

I love the Double Immune Booster! I have used it for about 2 years with great results in both my children and me. About 3 nights ago my husband got home from work feeling sick. He didn't think it was something really bad so he didn't do anything about it and went to bed. The following day he woke up feeling really sick, all day at work he was coughing, he had a fever and a sore throat. That night he ate a clove of garlic and went to bed, I offered the double immune glycerite but he just kinda fell asleep and never took it. Welll...The same night I started coughing! I knew I did Not want to get whatever he has! So it was about 1 am I ran to get the glycerite and I took a full dropper. And I kept that up every hour or so for about 20 hours and I don't have a scratch in my throat! While my hubby woke up Still coughing! I gave him the tincture bottle and told him he Had to take it! ;) Its a great mix!!

Healed while traveling
by Melanie Sorenson on May 16, 2012

I was visiting a dear friend of mine while my husband was out of town on business and went to bed with a tickle in my throat. The next morning I was achy all over and had a fever. My friend pulled out her Double-E immune Booster tincture she made with vodka and her Cough Tea tincture and had me start taking a teaspoon every hour of each. An hour after the first dose I could already feel my body working to fight it off. By that evening I was feeling so much better! Unfortunately I didn't take any all night so by morning I awoke feeling so terrible I wanted to cry. I was shaking from fever and my throat hurt so bad it felt like I was swallowing with razor blades in my throat. So off I went with the tinctures again. But then an awesome thing happened- half way through the day I broke out in a sweat and by that evening all of my symptoms were gone!!! I took one big dose late at night and one early in the morning and one more at lunch and I needed no further doses. I cannot thank you enough for providing these amazing remedies, what a blessing to have an alternative to modern drugs!

I really enjoy watching the videos and all the inspirational tips.

I received the Double-E Immune Booster right before we walked out the door for an out-of-town trip. After a long weekend with very little sleep, our whole family was coming down with a cold. I didnít have the time to make the tincture so I made a decoction out of the herbs. We all drank the decoction and two days later our colds were either gone or on their way out. Yeah! I have the glycerin tincture brewing as I type this, and plan to make an alcohol tincture when I purchase the vodka.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us and for the quick shipping!

Keeps Family Healthy
by Nichole on Jan 21, 2010

I absolutely love your Double E Immune Booster! I usually make a tincture and glycerite out of it and share with many friends. I am convinced that this along with other natural remedies and approaches is what keeps my family so healthy--the children's pediatrician has marveled over their overall health.

My husband is an electrician and is currently running a huge project at the hospital and while the two guys that also work with him are constantly sick, my husband remains healthy. The same goes for my children. My oldest is in public school and my other two are still at home with me and we rarely get sick all the while kids are going home with colds and (H1N1) flu.

Works for whole family
by Leah on Oct 7, 2009

Anytime the kids or I are sick, we turn to this herb blend. I put a tsp of it along with a tsp of mullein (decongestant) in a tea bag and staple it shut. I steep it for 5 min for the kids and a little longer for me. At the first sign of sore throat, runny nose, etc. we take this tea 3 times a day along with half a garlic clove morning and late afternoon. It works great! We don't have to go to the doctor nearly as often as we used to. It lasts a long time too. After 1 year I still have some left. I keep it in the fridge right in the padded envelope it came in to keep it dark and cool. Thank you!

Double-E for the kids toooo!

"We've had great results with the Double-E Immune Booster made into tea. Our 2 year old son recently seemed to be coming down with a cold. I brewed him a cup of warm Immune tea and used honey to sweeten it. He drank it out of a coffee cup (like Daddy) and loved it. He was better by the next day.

Just wanted to tell you that I add hibiscus flowers to almost every tea that I make. I LOVE the taste and the additional zing it gives to all my teas. I also really appreciate the quick response on that last order. I truly appreciate all of you. The products are fantastic and am seeing results with herbal usage. I have auto-immune problems and it is a long haul with illnesses.

Thanks again.
