Gelatin Capsules

Accessories: Gelatin Capsules

Size "0"

  • Approx. 1000 gel caps
  • Size "0" is the industry standard and most popular size used for capsulated products.
  • Gelatin source: gluten free, preservative free kosher beef.
  • Size "0" is about 50% smaller than size "00" and is close to the size of a nickel.
  • Each "0" capsule will hold 400 mg - 800 mg or so (5,000 mg = 1 teaspoon), depending on the powder and whether or not you use a Tamper when filling the capsules. Heavy and dense powders, such as Bentonite clay, Kelp and Spirulina, will be closer to the 800 mg range in one "0" capsule. Light and fluffy powders, such as Slippery Elm and Eleuthero Root, will be closer to the 400 mg range in one "0" capsule. Of course, using a Tamper will drastically increase the amount that will fit into each capsule.

Size "00"

  • Approx. 450 - 500 gel caps
  • Gelatin source: gluten free, preservative free kosher beef.
  • Size "00" is about 50% larger than size "0" and is nearly the size of a quarter.
  • Each "00" capsule will hold 550 mg - 1,100 mg or so (5,000 mg = 1 teaspoon), depending on the powder and whether or not you use a Tamper when filling the capsules. Heavy and dense powders, such as Bentonite clay, Kelp and Spirulina, will be closer to the 1,100 mg range in one "00" capsule. Light and fluffy powders, such as Slippery Elm and Eleuthero Root, will be closer to the 550 mg range in one "00" capsule. Of course, using a Tamper will drastically increase the amount that will fit into each capsule.
  • Because none of us have a hard time swallowing capsules, this is our favorite size for use in our home. Someone that does not like to swallow capsules may prefer the smaller sized "0".

can your capsules be used for essential oils

    Re: capsules
by Bulk Herb Store on Feb 28, 2014

    Hello,
If you are going to be encapsulating them and taking them directly, then yes. However, if you let the oils sit in the capsules for more than a minute or so, they will disintegrate. Thanks!

by Sunshine on Dec 30, 2013

ok, so does the statement about the quarter and the size 00 pill mean that it is as thick as a quarter or somewhere around the length of a quarter? I ordered some without thinking about the size and this sounds enormous. haha please help.

Liquids in Capsules
by marla latinakova on Dec 1, 2013

To the person who asked about putting fermented cod liver oil in capsules - this does work! I put it in "00" size and have even left it in for a few days and the capsules did not dissolve. Perhaps because it is an oil rather than a water based liquid is the reason it does not dissolve the capsule. Much cheaper to do this than to buy the cod liver oil already in the capsules and I can get my pickiest kid to choke these down. Awesome!

    Re: sizes
by Bulk Herb Store on Dec 9, 2013

    Hello,
I am not exactly sure as I haven't personally tried putting hydrocortisone into the capsules however our '0' sized capsule is the general size for most industrial pills.

Why wouldn't your capsules work for liquids? Even if you are not making them in advance but just making them at the time you're taking it?

    Re: capsules
by Bulk Herb Store on Nov 13, 2013

    Hello!
That is actually one way to do it. As long as you take them right away, you could make the capsules work for liquids. You just wouldn't be able to store them because the gelatin would dissolve.

Liquids?
by cherie on Oct 21, 2013

I was wondering if these would be appropriate for liquids. I was hoping to find a easier and less expensive way to take my fermented cod liver oil!

    Hello,
Unfortunately, no. Our capsules do not work for liquids. Thanks!

Just made my first capsules with Bentonite Clay. The machine is so easy to use and in about 15 minutes I made 96 capsules. So excited to try making more. Thanks!

Capsules surpassed expectation
by Jeannie on Nov 11, 2012

I read the warning about the capsules jamming and I figured I would have a few per batch, but there were fewer than 5 out of 1000 that jammed. This was my first try at making capsules and I think that now that I have the hang of it, there might not be any more. What an easy process! It's a bit addictive, actually.

I love your website! I've always hated relying on "allopathic" medicine. But if a doctor prescribed say, an antibiotic for my child's eye infection, even though I didn't like the possible long-term effects of the antibiotics, I always felt like I better go ahead and give it to him so I wouldn't risk damaging his eye, just because I didn't know what else to do. I am so happy I can now work toward building up my own knowledge so I can be responsible for the health of my own family.

I thought using herbs was some mysterious science and that a person would have to pay a lot of money to a supposed natural doctor whom they weren't sure if they could trust if they wanted to know how to use herbs. So, thank you!
