Preface

One of the greatest treasures that a woman or man can have is healthy, radiant skin. A beautiful complexion and glorious body skin are a reflection of our personal life-style practices. The most rigorously followed healthful living plan necessarily includes a nutritious diet, pure water, regular exercise in the fresh air, adequate rest and sleep, sensible stress management, and an effective skin cleansing program. It is this last part, effective skin cleansing, with which this book is intimately concerned.

I am a Licensed Aesthetician in the State of Massachusetts. My specialty is helping individuals achieve their rightful heritage as a “beautiful person,” as well as helping them claim their highest health potential through natural procedures.

In my years of experience, I have worked with many commercially prepared products from first-class department stores, as well as with many so-called “natural” products from health food stores. Many of these skin and body cleansers and moisturizers contain highly toxic and irritating ingredients. I have frequently had clients come to me suffering allergic reaction to these often costly products. Their suffering led me to experiment with totally natural, totally wholesome cosmetic ingredients. My success with this experimentation led to the writing of this book.

By preparing my own facial and body cleansers from fresh herbs, grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and oils, right in my very own kitchen, I have created recipes that produce the desired result of virtually all commercial cosmetics. And with the help and instructions in this book, you too can create natural, health-loving cosmetics that bring a radiance and glow to your face and whole body.

As you’re probably aware, commercial cosmetics have one of the highest profit markups of any product on the market. The cost to produce the bottle, label it, and package it is often more than the few cents worth of ingredients in the bottle. In fact, it is not uncommon to pay $20 or more for a two-ounce (60ml) jar of cream that promises to rejuvenate you by twenty years in twenty days! We all know such a promise can never be kept, but we pay the price anyway because the promise feels so good.

Aside from the obvious saving, creating your own cosmetics at home has many other advantages:

  • You have a choice of the purest, freshest, most natural ingredients available. Many of these you probably have in your kitchen cupboard or refrigerator, or can easily purchase them from local health food stores, specialty shops, or mail-order herb companies.
  • You can customize natural cosmetics to match your particular skin type or hair condition.
  • You can scent your cosmetics with your favorite herbal fragrance.
  • By creating your own personal care products, you are contributing to keeping the earth green. Homemade cosmetics contain no toxic chemicals to pollute the earth, they require no animal testing, and the packaging can be recycled.
  • In short, nature has truly rewarded us with a multitude of all-natural, wholesome ingredients with which to create a variety of products to both cleanse and nourish your skin, hair, nails, and more.

On the following pages are simple directions for making facial, hair, and body cleansers. You will find chapters offering facial steams, masks, creams, lotions, toners, and hair products, to use and give as gifts. You’ll also find a listing of where to buy any unfamiliar ingredients, specifically herbs. In the spirit of realism and economy, beauty and health, I wish you well!

Remember: Nature’s Promise…Take care of your skin and your skin will reward you with health and beauty for the rest of your life.
