The Back Cover

"Effective treatments are available - But you are not likely to learn of these treatments from your child's doctor. You will learn about them, however, in the pages of this book."

- Bernard Rimland, Ph.D., Director, Autism Research Institute

When Karyn Seroussi’s nineteen-month old son, Miles, was diagnosed with autism, the medical community dismissed his condition as irreversible. She and her husband took matters into their own hands, conducting extensive research on the Web, in medical papers, and even in the lab where Miles’ dad worked as a scientist.

They traced the onset of the symptoms to a recent round of vaccinations, when Miles' immune system appeared to falter. Further detective work led them to realize that vaccinations coincided with the digestive disorder and autistic regression in a growing subtype of children with autism.

Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder is not only the riveting story of one family’s quest to treat a son’s illness – it’s an inspiring, triumphant account of their search for answers.

Empowering themselves with medical information and an intimate knowledge of Miles’ illness, they defied the odds, and developed a treatment plan that reversed his autism and benefited countless others with the same subtype of the disorder.

"Karyn Seroussi offers us a researcher’s insight, with a mother’s touch, into what my be the greatest issue for America’s children – the reasons for the recent epidemic of autism. The book reads as much like a detective novel, a personal diary, and an Internet chat room as it does as fine, critical assessment of this complex disorder."

- Jeff Bradstreet, M.D., Director, Autism Research Center, Palm Bay, Florida, and the father of a six-year-old recovering from autism

"Karyn Seroussi’s good sense and her ability to sort out fact from fiction make her the perfect person to tell the story of autism research. Add to that a son who got better and a scientist husband who helped figure out why."

- Lisa S. Lewis, Ph.D., author of Special Diets for Special Kids

What a great book. Our family has not been touched by Autism, but the apparent rise in cases of it has always puzzled me. As a man I want to figure things out and this situation really bothered me. And it didn’t seem like the average person could find good info. And what about vaccines, is there a relationship between MMR and Autism? Should our kids get the MMR at 18 months? Lots of people were asking my wife and I our opinions, but we found ourselves fumbling around with vague cautions. After reading this book I feel more confident in the advice I give. The book doesn’t answer all the questions, but it provides a place to start. It usually takes me months to read a book, but I finished this one in 4 days. I’m ordering more and passing it out. Thanks for carrying it!

Don’t let the title scare you! This is an absolute must read for Moms. Karyn Seroussi tells her story of research and recovery about her son’s illness.

This book reads like a novel and very inspirational. Most mothers will be faced with health challenges in their family, and this book provides the tools needed to research, trust your instincts, find good doctors, and take responsibility for the health of your child.

Karyn Seroussi’s book touches more than autism: It touches on allergies, intestinal disorders, diet, behavior, learning, and much more.
