Q&A: What Herbs Will Help Balance Hormones In Men

This post is for married couples! Please be aware that it has adult content.

My husband and I have some problems.  We have looked into some of the male enhancement therapies, but things of this nature (Viagra) are too expensive and probably not the best choice for health reasons.  Can you help?

Hormone imbalance is probably the key here.  There are many herbs which are reputed to help a man to boost his “maleness.”  Some of these include (but are not limited to):  eleuthero root (link to our page), maca root, ashwagandha, horny goat weed, yohimbe, saw palmetto (link to our page), muira puama, gingko biloba, tribulus terrestris, and damiana.  You will find many male enhancement combinations on the market which include some or all of these herbs in some combination or another.  Many of them may even help, but there are other things to consider. First, I wonder if your husband has a gallbladder. If he has ever had his gallbladder removed, this can have dire effects on the libido and other systems of the body. The gallbladder is what regulates fat digestion. Appropriate fat digestion affects everything else--hormones, blood sugars, vitamin intake, etc. If the gallbladder is missing, different protocols may be necessary to get your husband back in a good healthy balance. I've done loads of research and posted this to our forum for the benefit of my own husband because he had his gallbladder removed some time ago. Liver congestion is a big suspect. The liver is responsible for regulating the balance of estrogen in the body for both males and females. If the body takes in too many estrogens, the liver will waste them through the digestive system to maintain a healthy balance. A congested liver will fail to maintain this balance, and will contribute to a problem, commonly known as estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance in men, can have all sorts of terrible side effects, loss of muscle mass, fatigue, insomnia, hair loss, prostate enlargement/or cancer, and the most obvious, problems with libido and sexual function. The solution for a congested liver is two-fold. First you must identify the source of the congestion. Medications, toxins and excess estrogens that are constantly put into the body will continue to make the problem worse if they are not identified and reversed or eliminated. Next, cleansing is usually appropriate. There are several herbal cleanses which affect the liver directly and there are others, which cleanse whole body. Sometimes either or both are appropriate. Diet, is a huge factor. Diets high in carbohydrates and refined grains and sugars will have all kinds of negative effects on the body and should be reduced severely or eliminated completely from the diet. Only real sugars and whole grains should be consumed regularly (unless there's intolerance to gluten, in which case certain grains should be avoided entirely.) Diets high in trans fats and/or chemically expelled fats and low in good healthy whole omega 3 and 6 fats (in balance) will suffer greatly as well. Fats play a huge role in the overall health of the immune system, the digestive system and the reproductive system. Without this balance, the glands, the hormones and everything else will fail to do their jobs properly. Here is a list of my favorite articles from various sources which give greater details of the list of things I've mentioned. I would suggest you read all of them and take some time to assess the causes and then lay out a plan to make the necessary changes to bring back better health for your husband.
