Wormwood, Black Walnut and Cloves- Friend or Foe?
By Nathan Pearl - July 20, 2012
Wormwood, Black Walnut Hull and Cloves are strong smelling, bad tasting herbs. Why then would you ever take them? Let’s face it, intestinal parasites are nasty. We don’t want to talk about them, we don’t want to hear about them and we really don’t want to admit we might have them. But according to the Center for Disease Control, 14% of the U.S. population is infected with Toxocara roundworms, which dogs and cats can pass to people. And those are just the roundworms! Some experts believe that as much as 80% of the U.S. is infected with some variation of parasites. Additional parasites like Taenia solium or tapeworm can cause very serious parasitic worm infections resulting in seizures and other neurological manifestations. According to Dr. Peter Hotez, a tropical disease expert at George Washington University, neurocysticercosis (worms in the brain) currently accounts for 10% of all seizures presenting in some emergency departments. YUCK! And you haven’t even seen the pictures yet. Doctors treat parasitic infestation with drugs like Albendazole, Mebendazole or Praziquantel. These are poisons that can have awful side effects including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, temporary hair loss, difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, bloody diarrhea etc...The poisonous drugs used to fight the parasites are incredibly strong and toxic. In fact, they are so bad for you that doctors can’t prescribe them without extensive testing. At times, even a biopsy of the affected organ is required. That is why I think this is one of those things that herbs do better then synthesized drugs. There are three essential things that we need to do if we are infected with parasites. First, we need to create an inhospitable environment that is toxic to these toxic invaders. The modern method for this is madness! It is, quite simply, to eat poison; not enough poison to kill you, just to kill your worms. As you can imagine, this whole scheme is predictably bad for you. A better way to accomplish this is to take the herb Wormwood. Wormwood contains sesquiterpene lactones, highly-effective chemical compounds which weaken parasite’s membranes and strips them of the ability to survive. That is also why a synthesized derivative of Wormwood is used in anti-malarial medication today. There is no better herb then Wormwood to rid yourself of parasites. That is why it is first. There are however some helpers I would like to use. Next to our Wormwood, we will add Black Walnut Hull. Black Walnut Hull will move the colon to empty itself of the dying worms and at the same time inhibit certain enzymes the parasites require for metabolic function. Once again, we are killing the worms without ingesting poisons. Aren’t herbs fun! Black Walnut Hull powder is full of a chemical compound called Juglone. If you ever look under a Black Walnut tree you will notice many of the plants have stunted growth; Juglone is why. The last thing we have to deal with is the eggs. Some of these parasites have copious amounts of young brewing in you right now and since we have not eaten poison, they won’t die. And trust me, we would very much like for them to die. So now we eat Cloves. Cloves do not kill the parasites - cloves contain a volatile oil called Eugenol which dissolves the hard casing around the parasite’s eggs. That, in turn, allows the Wormwood and Black Walnut Hull to do their job and kill them all! Eugenol is the volatile oil responsible for the aroma of cloves and it starts to dissipate as soon as they are ground. We keep only the highest quality products, so to keep our cloves fresh we only sell them whole. You will need to grind the cloves up in your blender to make them as effective as possible. The irradiated powder cloves you can buy at the grocery store are worthless for eradicating worm’s larvae. The way I would do this parasite cleanse is to get each of the following: “00” Gelatin capsules Capsule-Machine Wormwood powder Black Walnut Hull Powder Whole Cloves Grind up your Cloves and then use the Capsule-Machine to fill up your 00 Capsules with each of the powdered herbs. When handling the powdered Wormwood, be sure to wear a mask otherwise your mouth will taste horrid and your tongue will go numb. It is a little trouble to fill your own Capsules, but it definitely has some advantages as well. First you know what is in the Capsule. Many suppliers sell pills that are 40, 60, or even 80% fill and only 20% herb, and because there is no oversight of the industry, the only way to be sure is to fill your own. Also, a powdered form of the herb will release slower than a tincture ensuring that it will go through the stomach arriving at the colon, intact. After you get all of your Capsules filled and ready to take you can loosely follow this chart. For children 40 to 65 LB, do ¼ the amount of an adult dose, and only do 14 days on, 7 days off, then 14 days, and then that is all. For children 65 to 90 LB,do 1/3 the amount of an adult dose, and only do 14 days on, 7 days off, then 14 days, and then that is all. Remember when you are taking herbs, you are your own primary care giver and you must be vigilant of your own health. There is no way to know how any particular body will react to any substance so, do your research, start small and talk to your doctor. Return to all articles
